Why "try harder" backfires

Where your system sits before the pressure arrives decides how much it can absorb before tipping over the peak. A regulated baseline, built through sleep, recovery, and consistent breathing practice and measurable through heart rate variability, widens the range of pressure you can hold before performance falls. This is the single biggest lever, and the one most people ignore.

Rehearse under real conditions

Most of what tips you over the peak is novelty. The first time a situation is genuinely high-stakes, your body has no template and treats it as threat. Practising the actual task under progressively harder, more realistic pressure, not just in comfort, builds a template so the real moment reads as familiar rather than dangerous.
